Rosemary Rivas appointed Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference

Rosemary Rivas, a partner at Gibbs Law Group, has been appointed as a Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference for the Northern District of California. She will serve for the 2024-2026 term. In this role, Rosemary will draw on her experience as a federal practitioner to assist the Ninth Circuit in improving the administration of justice, including working with the judges to facilitate communications between the federal bench and the bar.

Per federal statute, each of the thirteen U.S. Courts of Appeals may hold annual or biennial conferences of all its active judges to “consider[] the business of the courts” and advise on the “means of improving the administration of justice.” At these conferences, Lawyer Representatives voice their positions on topics of concern to the federal courts and make recommendations for the improvement of the courts, including offering constructive criticism of the way court function. In addition to these duties at the annual judicial conference, Lawyer Representatives are responsible for carrying the work of the conference back to the bar during the rest of the year by teaching, discussing, and implementing the positions of the conference.

The Civil Justice Research Initiative will hold a symposium, “Class Action Approval: Guidelines and Fault Lines in the Northern District of California” on Wednesday, November 1 at 3p in Berkeley, CA. Kyla Gibboney appointed to Antitrust and Unfair Competition Law Section Leadership in CLA

About Jeff Kosbie

Jeff Kosbie represents workers and consumers in class actions and other complex lawsuits involving data breaches and consumer privacy, employment law, and other corporate misconduct. He previously worked as a staff attorney in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (2017-2018) and served as a Multidistrict Litigation Law Clerk to the Judges Lucy Koh, Beth Freeman, and Edward Davila of the Northern District of California (2018-2019).

Gibbs Law Group Attorneys to Speak at AAJ 2023 Annual Convention

Gibbs Law Group attorneys Eric Gibbs, David Berger, Amy Zeman, and Mark Troutman will each be speaking at the American Association for Justice’s 2023 Annual Convention this July 14-18 at the Philadelphia Convention Center. The AAJ’s annual convention provides a forum for plaintiff lawyers by plaintiff lawyers, where accomplished trial lawyers come together to discuss the latest developments in trial advocacy and specialized topics. The program includes panel presentations, exhibits, and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs designed to help attorneys share knowledge and better represent their clients.
