Ella Steinbach

Ella is a research and data professional whose work focuses on corporate and governmental accountability. She earned bachelor’s degrees in political science and statistics from the University of California, Davis, graduating cum laude in 2022.

Her passion for fighting corporate misconduct began while interning at the California Department of Justice Research Center. As a teenager, she had witnessed the rise of the e-cigarette company Juul and its predatory practices marketing to her peers and profiting from their addictions. At the DOJ, Ella had the opportunity to collaborate with top attorneys and used machine learning techniques to identify thousands of inconsistencies in Juul’s sales data, helping to prove the company’s negligence in verifying the ages of their consumers. This case resulted in a multi-million-dollar settlement, stronger regulation of the tobacco industry, and healthier communities.

After several years working in law enforcement accountability at the American Civil Liberties Union and California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, she chose to return to the fight against corporate misconduct with Gibbs Mura.
