Gibbs Mura Working on Behalf of School Districts in Fight to Hold Social Media Companies Accountable
May 13, 2026
Thousands of lawsuits against the social media platforms Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat have been consolidated in federal court. These include lawsuits filed on behalf of individuals as well as lawsuits filed by hundreds of school districts nationwide.

This summer, the first school district trial will take place in Oakland, California, before U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers. Our social media addiction lawyers are a part of the trial team. The trial is expected to start in June.
How Do The Federal Cases Impact Your Potential Social Media Addiction Case?
The upcoming trial in federal court will involve claims brought by a school district. The outcome of this trial may inform the social media addiction lawsuits our lawyers pursue on behalf of families, including your potential case.
Like the bellwether trial in Los Angeles, where a jury awarded plaintiff KGM $6 million in her lawsuit against Meta and YouTube, the cases brought by school districts are major parts of the ongoing fight to hold social media companies accountable for allegedly harming children. All of these cases generally argue that the social media companies are aware their design features may cause addictive behavior and lead to various mental health harms.
How can I become involved?
If you or your child experienced harm from social media platforms, you may qualify for a personal injury claim in the social media litigation. Social media companies are feeling the pressure after seeing that juries are willing to hold them responsible for causing mental health injuries. Reach out to us for more information.
