The NLJ recognizes Gibbs Law Group in annual list of top plaintiffs’ law firms

 SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The National Law Journal (NLJ) named Gibbs Law Group LLP to its elite “Plaintiffs’ Hot List” for 2012, a compilation of top U.S. plaintiffs’ firms recognized for wins in high-profile cases.

The NLJ asked readers “to nominate firms in the United States that have done exemplary, cutting-edge work on the plaintiffs side,” and performed extensive research to identify firms with “an impressive track record of wins within the past three to five years.”

“We are very pleased with the results we were able to deliver to our clients, and we are gratified that the National Law Journal recognized our efforts,” said Daniel Girard, the firm’s managing partner.

In its announcement that Gibbs Law Group was among the “Hot List” firms of 2012, the NLJ acknowledged the work of partners Daniel Girard and partner Amanda Steiner in obtaining a $157 million recovery on behalf of investors in Provident and Medical Capital securities.

The NLJ also recognized the firm for its litigation against student loan provider SLM, Corp., also known as Sallie Mae.  Acting as lead class counsel in the case, Gibbs Law Group’ securities lawyers recovered $35 million on behalf of investors.

The NLJ went on to state that Gibbs Law Group “was also noteworthy for work it did in Guam,” a class action case filed against the Government of Guam challenging its decision to not pay hundreds of millions of dollars in income tax refunds to Guam residents.

The firm’s consumer protection lawyers were acknowledged for their achievement in a class action lawsuit filed against AmeriGas, alleging that the company reduced the amount of propane gas in tanks without telling its customers.  In a settlement approved by the Honorable Gary A. Fenner of the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, the propane retailers were ultimately required to pay $10 million to consumers.
