Eric Gibbs of Gibbs Law Group LLP was appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the consolidated GranuFlo/NaturaLyte litigation
San Francisco, CA — The law firm of Gibbs Law Group LLP is pleased to announce that Eric Gibbs, a partner with the firm, has been appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for the prosecution of the GranuFlo/NaturaLyte Cases (JCCP 4749). The GranuFlo lawsuits are coordinated in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles.
On July 19, 2013, the Honorable Lee Smalley Edmon appointed Mr. Gibbs to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee, which will be responsible for managing and conducting California state court litigation on behalf of all plaintiffs in the consolidated GranuFlo/NaturaLyte lawsuits.
“It is a privilege to be able to work alongside this group of respected attorneys and represent the individuals and their loved ones who have been harmed by GranuFlo and NaturaLyte,” said Mr. Gibbs, whose practice is devoted to prosecuting large-scale class, mass and collective actions. “I believe that with our combined experience and expertise, we will be able to show that Fresenius Medical Care knew of the dangers linked to GranuFlo and NaturaLyte and nonetheless did not adequately disclose these risks,” stated Mr. Gibbs.
GranuFlo and NaturaLyte are products used in hemodialysis to treat acute and chronic renal failure. GranuFlo was first approved in 2003 by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for sale in the U.S. However, in March 2012, the FDA issued a safety alert on GranuFlo and NaturaLyte after the agency received information about the apparent link between the drugs and cardiovascular events, such as cardiac arrest, death, and other injuries. In June 2012, the FDA issued a Class 1 recall of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte, the most serious class of recall. More than fifteen lawsuits have been filed in California superior courts against manufacturer Fresenius and the number continues to grow.
