What Court Records Reveal About TikTok’s Response to Child Safety Concerns

October 27, 2026

According to NPR, depositions filed in federal court provide new information about TikTok’s approach to child safety. These depositions, which were taken by two Gibbs Mura attorneys, Michael Weinkowitz and Andre Mura, and others, shed light on how TikTok employees reported concerns about serious risks to minors, including exposure to suicide-related content and loopholes that allowed users under 18 to bypass certain safeguards. The records also reportedly show concerns about young users circumventing age restrictions and blocking parents or guardians from reviewing their activity.

For parents and caregivers, the central question is whether TikTok’s safeguards intended to protect young users addressed the risks TikTok employees identified. The reporting examines what TikTok knew about those risks, and how the company responded when its own employees raised concerns.

Does This Reporting Matter for TikTok Lawsuits?

According to public reporting, Meta agreed to implement additional protections for children and teenaTikTok is among the defendants in federal multidistrict litigation, a process that coordinates related lawsuits for pretrial proceedings. The claims involve major social media companies and generally allege that platforms were designed in ways that are addictive and harmful to users under 18 and that companies failed to adequately disclose known risks. TikTok disputes the characterization presented in NPR’s report.

Internal documents and employee testimony can be important in litigation because they may help establish what a company knew about a potential risk, when the company learned about it, and what actions it took in response.
