Gibbs Mura Celebrates its 2025 Summer Associates and Summer Fellows

We’re pleased to highlight our fantastic cohort of Summer Associates and Summer Fellows! These Rising 2Ls and 1Ls were selected in a highly competitive recruiting process from law schools across the country. They have demonstrated not just academic excellence but also leadership in their communities and a dedication to public interest lawyering. The attorneys and staff at Gibbs Mura had wonderful summer introducing them to the plaintiffs bar.

Summer Associates

Iliana Arbeed

Iliana is a Bay Area native and rising 3L at Berkeley Law, where she has served as Diversity Chair of the Plaintiffs’ Law Association and worked pro bono in the Consumer Justice Clinic. Last summer, she worked at Erickson Kramer Osborne LLP on corporate misconduct, consumer protection, workers’ rights, and sexual abuse class actions, contributing to a $28MM settlement against a Tennessee city over mishandled rape investigations. Iliana earned her B.A. in Politics, Philosophy, and Law, summa cum laude, from the University of Southern California, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Before law school, Iliana worked in the tech and nonprofit sectors.


Abby Smith

Abby is a rising 3L at Berkeley, where she is a Fellow at the Center for Consumer Law & Economic Justice and Managing Editor for California Law Review. She also served as Co-Chair of the Consumer Advocacy & Protection Society and Public Interest Chair for Law Students of African Descent. She interned at the D.C. Attorney General’s Office her 1L summer and the Federal Trade Commission her 2L spring. Abby grew up in Minnesota and graduated with a B.A. in Marketing and Economics from the University of Notre Dame. Before law school, she worked in Ad Tech at Kroger.


Summer Fellows

Suzanne Antoniou

Suzanne is a rising 2L at Stanford Law School, where she serves as an Articles Editor for the Stanford Journal of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and on the board of the Plaintiffs’ Law Association. She also volunteers with the Campus Survivors and Domestic Violence Pro Bono Projects and works on immigration policy with Professor Lucas Guttentag. Prior to law school, Suzanne worked as an economic consultant as well as a research associate on tax policy. Suzanne grew up in Maryland and received her B.A. in Economics from Brown University.


Thomas Hassen

Thomas is a rising 2L at Stanford Law School, where he serves as Co-Director of the Workers’ Rights Pro Bono Project, Co-President of the Black Law Students Association, and as Member Editor on the Stanford Law Review and Stanford Journal of Civil Rights & Civil Liberties. Before law school, Thomas worked in policy, community organizing, and direct social services, supporting low-income workers, tenants, and those experiencing homelessness. Thomas grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, and received his MSc in Human Rights from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and his BAs in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the University of Nevada, Reno.


Taja Hirata-Epstein

Taja is a rising 2L at Berkeley Law. In the upcoming year, she will serve as Diversity Chair for the Plaintiffs’ Law Association and Senior Symposium Editor for the Asian American Law Journal. Prior to law school, she worked on federal policy relating to technology, gender-based violence, and LGBTQ+ issues. Taja was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, and she received a B.A. in political science from Brown University.


Madison Sesay

Maddy is a rising 2L at the Howard University School of Law and is passionate about healthcare reform. Maddy will serve this upcoming year as Vice President of Health Law Society, after having previously served as 1L Representative for the group. Maddy is from Fulton, Maryland and attended the University of Richmond where she was a student-athlete on the Women’s Lacrosse team and received her B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, Economics and Law with a minor in Health Studies.


Helena Stacy

Helena is a rising 2L at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and is committed to using her education to uplift marginalized communities. In the upcoming year, she will serve on the executive board for OutLaws, Criminal Law Society, and the ACLU Chapter at Moritz. Helena grew up in Jackson, OH and received a B.A. in Political Science and in Sociology from Brown University.
