Dexcom G7 Sensor Failure Lawsuit

TABLE OF CONTENTS

CASE OVERVIEW

Dexcom’s G7 glucose sensors may give inaccurate readings that could lead to injury or even death, according to a September 2025 report from Hunterbrook Capital and other news reports. Hunterbrook alleges that despite previously marketing its’ G7 sensor as “the most accurate” continuous glucose monitoring device, certain models were, in reality, less accurate in measuring blood glucose levels than competitor models and were in fact flagged by the FDA in a March 2025 letter as adulterated.”

Furthermore, the FDA issued a warning letter to Dexcom indicating that significant modifications had been made to the G7 device without obtaining the required FDA authorization. The agency determined that these changes substantially affected the accuracy of the device.

Dexcom G7 Sensor Defects: Dexcom was allegedly aware of inaccurate readings yet still pushed devices into the market

In December 2023, Dexcom allegedly swapped the material of a component used in the resistance layer of the G7 sensor from an outsourced material, to an in-house one, without proper FDA clearance. FDA inspection records obtained by a third-party report that Dexcom’s internal studies showed that its new in-house material was “inferior by ‘every accuracy metric’” and could lead to “differences in accuracy” that could affect insulin dosing, yet it still chose to sell the devices to consumers.

In March 2025, the FDA issued a formal warning letter to Dexcom regarding its concerns with the design change in the sensor, noting that this undisclosed change can “cause higher risks for users who rely on the sensors to dose insulin or make other diabetes treatment decisions.”

Consumers report Dexcom G7 Sensor issues and faulty readings

Numerous consumers have taken to online forums with complaints of faulty and inaccurate Dexcom G7 readings. A recent report claims that some individuals have tragically been hospitalized or even passed away. Doctors interviewed reportedly noted “inaccuracies, repeated device failures, connectivity issues, and problems with the adhesive,” in the G7 devices, and some doctors have completely stopped recommending the G7 devices to their patients.

Consumers on Reddit have reported such high levels of frustration and discomfort they have called Dexcom to report the inaccurate readings, while others have asked their doctors to prescribe another device.
