19 Women Bring Sexual Misconduct Charges Against Ob-Gyn Dr. Robert Hadden
According to ABC, 19 women and minors accused Dr. Robert Hadden of sexual assault in 2016 which then led to a Grand Jury indictment of multiple felony charges based off the testimony of six of these individuals.
ABC further states that Hadden negotiated a “conditional discharge” plea deal which, despite stripping him of his medical license and requiring him to register as a low-level sex offender, allowed him to avoid jail time and probation.
The article articulates critics’ sentiment that the sentence was far too light given the nature of his crimes. His accusers were also denied the chance to speak directly to the judge about their assault. In a CNN interview with one of his accusers, Evelyn Yang, she states
I was just flat-out denied, other women flat-out denied… it was very strategic so that the judge wouldn’t be influenced if there were dozens of women in court saying that this man had assaulted them to this degree

Evelyn Yang's Story of Sexual Abuse by Dr. Robert Hadden
According to an interview with CNN and several ABC articles, Evelyn Yang, wife of former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, recently came forward with her story of assault at the hands of Dr. Robert Hadden and her role in his 2016 indictment.
In the CNN interview, Yang explains how it took several months of obstetrician exams before the red flags became apparent. While it started with unsolicited and inappropriate questions about her sexual activity, it eventually escalated to manual abuse under the guise of an “exam.” She states
The examinations became longer, more frequent, and I learned that they were unnecessary most of the time
ABC explains how Yang’s brave decision to publicize the details of her assault comes on a wave of public accusations which have arisen in response to the leniency of Hadden’s 2016 plea deal.
Manhattan DA Brings Federal Charges Against Gynecologist Robert Hadden of New York Presbyterian Hospital
According to ABC, after the sheer volume of new complaints flooding the Manhattan DA’s office in the wake of Hadden’s 2016 plea deal, new charges have been brought against him. ABC quotes the indictment in saying
Hadden [abused his victims through a] process that entailed developing a relationship with his victims and causing them to trust him, before engaging in a course of increasingly abusive conduct, which Hadden attempted to mask under the guise of legitimate medical care
ABC goes on to explain how Hadden also targeted young women who had often never had an Ob-Gyn and were therefore more vulnerable to his manipulations. According to ABC, the indictment further states that
For many victims, Hadden was their first gynecologist, and for others, Hadden was their doctor during their first pregnancy. In doing so, Hadden intentionally targeted victims who would not know what to expect during their exams
Lawsuit Against Columbia University Medical Center and Affiliated Hospitals
The ABC article states that in 2018, Anthony T. DiPietro, a malpractice attorney representing several of Hadden’s victims, filed a lawsuit against Columbia University and its affiliated hospitals accusing them of enabling and hiding Hadden’s behavior for decades. The article quotes DiPietro in saying
Columbia University has been hiding evidence of Hadden’s sexual abuse for the past 25 years. In order to make sure this doesn’t happen again, I’m calling for the DA to open a criminal investigation into Columbia University for the role it played in enabling, aiding, abetting, and covering up two decades of sexual abuse
ABC further explains that while DiPietro congratulates the Manhattan DA for bringing new charges against Robert Hadden, he does not believe it is not enough until the hospitals that enabled Hadden’s behavior are held accountable. This includes New York Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University Medical Center.
